Supernal has confirmed that a full-scale technology demonstrator for its planned S-A2 eVTOL aircraft made a first flight more than a month ago on March 1. The California-based company, which had not acknowledged the flight until asked about it by AIN, said that the tethered flight marked a milestone in the work to design, build, integrate, and fly a full-scale, four-passenger aircraft.

Electra Aero has boosted the capital base for developing its EL9 hybrid-electric aircraft by raising $115 million through a Series B funding round. Announcing completion of the round on April 21, the Virginia-based company said the main backer is growth equity group Prysm Capital, whose co-founder and managing partner, Jay Park, has joined Electra board of directors.

Southeast Asia charter group PhilJets this week boosted its commitment to add VTOL aircraft to its fleet by announcing plans to buy five more of the hybrid-electric Atea model being developed by French start-up Ascendance. Airbus is continuing weekly flight tests with its CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL prototype aircraft almost three months after the company’s January 28 announcement that it will not proceed with a commercial launch of the four-seat model. The aircraft has been moved from Airbus Helicopters’ Donauwörth facility in Germany, and although the European aerospace group has declined to reveal the location of flight testing that will be completed this year, it is likely now based at the nearby Airbus Defense and Space facility in Manching.
