Joby Aviation successfully demonstrated its autonomous flight technology for the U.S. Department of Defense as part of the Resolute Force Pacific exercise led by the Pacific Air Forces, the company announced September 3. During the month-long exercise, which ran from July 10 to August 8, Joby logged 43.7 flight hours and 7,342 miles with a fully autonomous Cessna Caravan operating over the Pacific Ocean and Hawaii.

Hyundai Motor Group is rebooting the leadership team of its eVTOL aircraft developer Supernal, which is behind schedule for flight testing a prototype of its four-passenger S-A2 model. On August 27, the Korean carmaker confirmed that Jaiwon Shin is stepping down as Supernal’s CEO and head of Hyundai’s Advanced Air Mobility division.

The government of Hefei city in China this week agreed to invest in EHang’s plans to produce its planned new VT35 eVTOL aircraft. Announcing their partnership on August 26, city officials and the company said they will establish a base for the VT35 program to support research and development, testing, certification, manufacturing, sales, and operations for EHang’s next autonomous eVTOL model.

Daher has launched a climate policy that targets a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by 2032, aligning the company with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 degrees C target. The French aerospace group, which manufactures light aircraft, including the TBM and Kodiak families, and provides logistics and industrial services, aims to cut emissions by 23% by 2027 as an interim goal.

The FAA has issued experimental airworthiness certification for the Air One range of piloted and uncrewed eVTOL aircraft. On September 3, the manufacturer announced the approval, saying that this clears the way for Air to expand flight testing at its facility near West Palm Beach in Florida.

Joby Aviation completed its acquisition of Blade Air Mobility’s passenger flight services today. Simultaneously, Blade’s medical transportation unit has begun trading under its new name, Strata Critical Medical, with its own listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange.

FBO group Avflight is installing Beta Technologies’ electric aircraft charging equipment at four of its airport locations in Michigan. In a joint announcement on August 28, the companies confirmed that charging stations are already operating at Lansing (KLAN) and West Michigan/Holland (KBIV) airports and will soon be available at Traverse City (KTVC) and Willow Run (KYIP).

Blue Spirit Aero Makes Case for Dragonfly Family of Hydrogen-powered Aircraft
The French company is one of multiple start-ups worldwide looking to drive down emissions, cost, and noise with hydrogen-propulsion systems for aviation. Blue Spirit’s Dragonfly design combines fuel cells, electric motors, and a blown-wing architecture. It aims to start flying its technology in 2026 as it targets type certification and first deliveries to flight schools in 2028.
